Full Description

House shown on Chapman's map of 1774, Stoke Hall with avenue and lodge on Sanderson 1835. Geoffrey Lane has carried out preliminary research on the site which suggests that the park is post medieval in origin, having been formed after the Hospital of St Leonard was dissolved and the Hall was built (possibly originally on the site of the hospital, not necessarily where the hall is now). The village was then moved from its original site to the Fosse road. The park may well have been substantially modernised when the house was rebuilt c 1820. (1) (4)
