Full Description

Hall with extensive grounds, including lake, lodge and summerhouse, shown on Sanderson's map of 1835. Throsby describes the lake, with island and pleasure boat, and the summerhouse. Formerly a private residence the house of 1799 and 1904 was converted to an independent co-ed boarding and day school in 1944 and is listed grade II, lodge also listed grade II. Much of the original layout has been lost including the Japanese garden and the walled kitchen garden. A well treed pleasure ground survives, brick and terracotta ha-ha , a formal lawn , a pond and some very ornamental parkland to the east. The grounds were designed by William Eames, a notable pupil of Capability Brown, who also worked at Clifton Hall. (2)
