Full Description

Hockerwood Park shown. (2)
Hockerwood is first mentioned in 1340 and it can be assumed that it was created by Archbishop Melton. Described in 1388 as "60 acres in Hokerwode Park within the enclosure, whereof 37 acres are worth 16d an acre and 23 acres of rough meadow are worth 10d an acre". Hockerwood was a park of 180 acres lying 1.5 miles to the NE of Southwell over the Greet. Hockerwood Farm lies in the centre and was probably the site of the keeper's house. Its disparking and enclosure for farming was accomplished in progressive steps by successive tenants in the late C18. (3)
