Full Description

Felley Priory shown on Sanderson's map of 1835. The house, with stables and cottages are all listed grade II. Founded for Augustinian Canons in 1156 by Ralph Brito of Annesley, Less than 10 years later and 10 miles away Henry II founded Newstead Priory for the same order. The Millingtons acquired the estate in 1604. The priory buildings were converted from the 16th century. Little survives of priory buildings. 4 half piers with decorated waterleaf and similar capitals are now gateposts to the garden and courtyard entrances. The high garden wall to the south east is believed to be part of the medieval priory's boundary wall. Near the house is an outstanding four centred arch and mullioned windows and mostly timber framed barns. 1890's terraces erected on sloping fields. 1976 most of gardens laid out with orchards, herbaceous borders, pond, topiary, rose garden.
