Full Description

Landscape park, C18, c.30ha, enclosing house and C19 conservatory, with C18 walled garden. Medieval and Jacobean house rebuilt 1798, enlarged by Lewis Wyatt 1829, substantially remodelled 1853-57 by T C Hine for T B T Hildyard. To the east, a conservatory which was, and remains, the most remarkable C19 domestic conservatory in the whole of England, with balcony, sculpture, fountain. C18 landscape to south, west and north-west of Hall. Woodland to north-west, with ice-house. To south-west the
Spring Garden, combining fine mature trees - cedars of Lebanon, Luccombe oaks, a Turkey oak - with snowdrops, daffodils, foxgloves. Park to south-west and south generally open, with lake with small islands to south, fed from west to east by the Beck Dyke. Rectangular walled garden, C18, now restocked with fruit trees, ornamental shrubs. Outstanding single and double borders. Aviary or pheasantry by Wyatt, c.1829. Woodland spring garden and double-bordered flower garden. (2)
