Full Description
A drain consisting of two vertical brick walls, five courses high and two courses thick, bonded with a light brown coarse sandy mortar and capped with roughly worked limestone slabs. Approximately 1m wide and 0.45m high. Initially crossing High Street at the eastern entrance to Horsewells Street, the drain turns sharply west as it enters Horsewells Street and continues downhill following the line of the street on its west side directly below the terraced wall supporting High Street. At the point where both the east and west road entrances merge to form a single carriageway northwards, the drain cross the street, continuing north along the east side of Horsewells Street for approximately 50m before crossing beneath the street at an angle of some 45 degrees and continuing in a northerly direction along the west side of the road.
