Full Description
Nine metal detecting visits during 2013 to Owls Nest Field recovered 54 artefacts. The date range is Roman to modern. Finds include Roman coins, Roman brooches, 16th century coins, 18th century coin, 19th century coin, a lead seal (17th/18th century), 20th century coins, clasp (15th-17th century), buckle (18th century), Crotal bell (17th century), Horse bell (18th-19th century), livery button (19th century), musket balls, lead objects and a clothing fastener (15th-16th century). Several lead objects and a bronze coin have been sent to the British Museum for identification. Also recovered Roman pottery, mainly greyware and a few pieces of colour coat. This adds to previous finds from this field and brings the total of Roman coins to 71. (1)
