Full Description

A roughly oval area of heat affected sand and areas of ashy sand containing sherds of Saxo-Norman pot. Over 4kgs of pot were salvaged from the machine bucket and the feature as it was removed. Reconstructed pots appeared to be wasters. This, with evidence for in situ burning, suggests that this was the site of a kiln. The pottery dated to the late 10th century. (1)
