Summary

Three linear features (gullies) and a ditch all containing Roman pottery were found during evaluations at Platt's Orchard Southwell by PCAS in 2011 and 2012.

Full Description

Two small gullies aligned c.NNE-SSW were found in trench 3. One had a single sherd of Roman-British pottery, the other contained 23 sherds of Romano-British pottery, animal bone, fish bone, charred grains and burnt clay. (1)
These same features were further excavated in 2012 where more pottery was recovered from the 2nd -4th centuries. Animal bone included sheep/goat, cattle and eel. A futher linear freature was discovered containing Roman pottery. (2)
At the south end of trench 6 a c.ESE-WNW aligned ditch was found containing 3rd-4th century pottery, tile, animal bone, charred grains, fish bone and burnt clay. (1)
