Full Description

An inhumation burial in Area A2 at the southern edge of the channel. It was aligned east to west with head at the east. Adult, likely male, accompanied by the skeleton of an adult male dog of indeterminate breed which had been placed lying on its side with its legs extended and its head at the man's feet. The man's left hand lay on the dog's rump. Radiocarbon dating of both the human and canine bone gave a date range around the mid-2nd century AD. The inclusion of the dog, which had presumably been killed and buried with its master, suggests that the burial was not Christian. (1)
