Full Description

Ditch in trench 2 contained an 18th century sherd, the same as a ditch terminus in trench 3 which contained 18th century material. Numerous pits in trench 3 and a pit in trench 1 had been backfilled with 19th-20th century waste. (1)
A pit in trench 6 contained 17th-18th century pottery and redeposited human remains. There was also some residual Roman and Medieval sherds. It may be speculated that the human remains probably originated from the cemetery area, perhaps disturved whilst digging service trenches or similar, then re-interred with some care at an out of the way location. The disarticulated human bone derived from a minimum of four adults. Further finds included CBM, windown glass, 17th century clay tobacco pipe and animal bone. (1) (2)
Linear features in area A1 could have been for drainage or a hedge. Further pits and post-holes were found containing 17th and 18th century pottery. A large rubbish pit contained pottery and animal bone. (2)
