Full Description

The main hall and service range appear to date from the mid to late C19 and the entire complex is shown on the 1884 OS map. Eight buildings were photographed including: The hall and service range were brick built with the hall having stone dressings to the opening and tile detail around the eaves and filling the tympanums over the ground floor windows. The 2 elements had separate hipped roofs covered with grey slates. The hall was arranged over 2 floors set around 3 sides of a central stair lobby it by a large roof light and from which all of the principal rooms were accessed. The entrance to the hall was situated on the north side of the building and fitted with an ornate stone built porch. Also recorded was a building that was subdivided into a wash house, coach house/workshop, stable, milking parlour and storeroom. Also recorded were a boiler house with lean-to green house, a coachman’s house, a ward range, an admin annex and a caretaker’s bungalow. (1)
