Full Description
The bond and lower brickwork of the stable is contemporary with the C19 threshing barn at The Croft, but it retains few of its original features. It forms the east range of the farm building group. A single storey structure, constructed of brick, with a dentilated eaves cornice and hipped roof. The west elevation has three door openings. The north and south elevations had three evenly spaced vertical ventilation slits. The building was divided into three by brick and timber partitions. All the walls were whitewashed, the lower 4ft of which was heavily worn. The slit ventilators seen on the exterior were present in the south and north walls but were considerably larger [on the inside the north ones had been blocked]. The southernmost part of the floor was of 10 east-west aligned rows of half abutting bricks, which sloped to a drainage channel on the north side. To the north of this channel, the floor was of irregular limestone slabs and bricks. (1)
