Full Description
14 – 16 Portland Street: Pair of C18 11/2 storey cottages and may have been built as on-up-one-down dwellings. Red-brick with a rendered façade onto Portland Street and a pan-tile roof. No. 14 was used for retail purposed until recently (Cellar Records), whilst 14 appears to have remained in domestic use. No. 16 has both a domestic extension and a wash house and stable. (1)
18 Portland Street: [Originally] 2 or 3 smaller cottages which have been “knocked through” and perhaps heightened to create the present building. Fenestration onto the street consists of wooden 4-pane vertical sashes on the ground floor, with depressed brick lintels with tile sills. (1)
20-22 Portland Street: The street façade contains a boarded up carriageway under a dressed brick lintel and a large timber shop window front with doorway. During the late C19 it was a grocers. This use extended to 22 and 24 Portland Street as well by the C20. The rear of 22 has 2 blocked brick archways set at an angle. (1)
