Full Description

Lincoln Street dips markedly below the A1 flyover. This is an existing depression and there are the remains of the post-medieval road surface in the stratigraphy. The road to Lincoln was formerly known as Sludge Gate and the pronounced dip would have produced an especially wet surface in poor weather. (1)
