Full Description

Baptist chapel built in 1889. A school room (possibly built earlier) sits behind the building and a vestry sits to the buildings right. (1)
1879 OS has building at the rear of property (possibly now the school room) as the Baptist Church. By 1900 OS Church is much larger and the property includes original building in the church plan. Date on the lintel at the front states the church was built in 1889. Original brick with string course in evidence. Front of building highly decorative in regards to lintels and sills as well as decorative brickwork towards the roof. Large fan light also in evidence and by the style is probably original. However, the front doors are new and in the same style as the windows. Does this indicate that they were all changed at some point relatively recently? The same style and brickwork is in evidence on the sides of the 1889 church whilst the possibly older (pre 1879) part is built in a different building material (stone) Looks relatively generic as far as turn of the century churches go. Foundation stones inscripted on the front and side of the church would indicate an interesting social history.
