Full Description
Baptist Chapel. C19 with later additions. With monchrome brickwork window heads and decorative pattern to brickwork and decorative eaves (NCC JEB).
The chapel was constructed at some point between 1835 (when it is absent from Sanderson’s map of that date) and 1884 when it appears on an Ordnance Survey map (NCC JEB). (1,2)
Located on Baptist Lane which is one of several early C19 lanes that connect Low Street and High Street which are named after a building on them. Collingham acquired some local importance as a centre for nonconformity from at least the early C17. In 1676 over a third of all non-conformists enumerated in the Newark deanery were within Collingham. Most were Baptists and a building licensed for worship by the Congregationalists was present in North Collingham from as early as 1672 (NSDC CA Appraisal 2006).
