Full Description

The earlier was the smaller, approximately 1m deep, with steep sides, containing three fills. The lower was a dark grey silt with no inclusions, uncommon for this site, with a fragment of ceramic building material of 18th – 20th century date. This fill was partially covered by a slump or tip deposit from the south of redeposited natural and topped by the typical dark grey silty sand with gravels seen elsewhere. The pit was cut by a wide, relatively shallow pit that contained a single fill, with a fragment of clay tobacco pipe, and early modern flower pot, floor tile and handmade brick recovered from this feature.
