Results of trial trenching, metal detectoring, and geophysical survey at land around Kelham Hall. All but one of twelve excavated trenches contained archaeological features. Mid Saxon features were confirmed in Trenches 3, 4, 7 and 12. There were a handful of medieval ditches and pits including evidence of ridge and furrow farming on the west side of the Site. No indications of the early post-medieval hall or its later incarnations were found, with the post-medieval features interpreted as being mainly agricultural in character. The majority of the ditches, pits and postholes exposed were devoid of any artefacts and are surmised to relate to the recorded Saxon and medieval activity, as well as the post-medieval and modern occupation of the Hall.
