Full Description

An evaluation trench was orientated north-south, along the southern periphery of the former sand pit.

A single pit, mostly exposed and likely to be oval in plan, was exposed towards the centre of this trench. The pit had steep sides and a wide, concave base, containing two fills; the lower was a redeposited natural, likely slumping in from the sides soon after the pit was dug. The upper included coal and charcoal flacks, and might represent deliberate deposition of material although the flecks may also have been blown / washed in.

No dating was recovered from this pit.
