Full Description
Pottery: 292 sherds; 5 sherds collected that are possibly pre-and early Roman; 14 Romano-British, 3 Early Medieval, 36 Medieval, 34 Late Medieval/Early Post Medieval, 96 Post Medieval, 87 Early Modern+, 18 undiagnostic.
Ceramic Building Material: 130 fragments were collected. 46% of the material was coded as RTMISC meaning that no diagnostic dating could be made. 1 Roman tegula fragment was recorded, 3 glazed roof tiles (either peg, nib or ridge) are of medieval/early post-medieval date. The remaining fragments were early modern/modern pantile, brick and field drain fragments.
Clay Tobacco Pipe: 61 fragments were found. The majority were fragments of stem, but two of the bowls indicate late 17th century manufacture.
Flint: 3 flints showing human tool making and 1 fire-cracked pebble were recovered.
Glass: 18 fragments of glass were collected. 16 sherds are modern in date, with the 2 remaining fragments likely dating to the 18th century.
Miscellaneous Finds: There were 38 miscellaneous finds in total including 13 oyster shells, 5 animal bones (probably small mammals), animal teeth, 5 pieces of coal and 3 slag, 4 metal fragments, likely from handmade nails. None of these finds are dateable and were discarded.
