Full Description

Pottery: 169 sherds collected; 2 Romano-British, 1 Early Medieval, 9 Medieval, 6 Late Medieval/Early Post/Medieval, 63 Post Medieval, 82 Early Modern+, 6 undiagnostic.

Ceramic Building Material: 147 fragments were collected, of these 58% of the material was coded as RTMISC meaning that no diagnostic dating could be made. 1 Roman roof tegula and 2 Roman roof tiles were identified (imbrex or tegula) and 1 possible Roman brick fragment were identified. There was a large scatter of modern brick in the SE corner of the field that was recorded but not collected. This may be from drainage work or a demolished outbuilding.

Clay Tobacco Pipe: 32 fragments of clay tobacco pipe were collected, the majority of which are stems fragments, but of the bowl fragments collected, two date to the late 17th century.

Glass: 13 fragments of glass were collected. The fragments are early
modern/modern in date, with green glass sherds from bottles predominating.

Miscellaneous Finds: There were 20 miscellaneous items in total comprising 5 oyster shells, 6 bird and small animal bones, 2 animal teeth (sheep or pig), 2 pieces of coal and 4 pieces of ferrous slag and 1 horseshoe. These items were discarded
