Cutting the natural deposits at the north-eastern end of an evaluation trench was a linear, north to south orientated, feature. This had moderately sloped, concave sides and a flat base, and was at least 1.8m long, 1.1m wide and 0.26m deep. Within this feature was a single homogenous fill of moderately compact, mid orangey brown sandy silt.

Found in the same trench as another ditch parallel and south-west of this ditch.

These two linear features investigated in the trench were parallel to one another and on a north to south alignment. Double-ditched field boundaries of Roman date, thought to have functioned as trackways, have been identified in the vicinity of the site, and it is possible that the linear features in this trench represent one of these. However, this seems unlikely given that the space between double-ditched boundaries is typically 3m to 5m while the space between these two ditches is around 1.7m. A field boundary of this period would also typically be wider and deeper than the linear features observed in this trench. An alternative interpretation of these features is as ditches flanking a hedgerow.

Dating evidence was absent the linear features.

Given that Iron Age or Roman field systems were located away from areas of settlement, a lack of dating evidence such as pottery is typical for field boundaries of this period. While it is possible that the linear features in the east of the site are of Iron Age or Roman date,there is no dating evidence to support this, and the features could alternatively relate to later agricultural activity of the medieval or post-medieval periods.
