Full Description

A north/south ditch was located in the west of Area B. It had steeply sloping sides and a flat base and was 0.92m wide and 0.58m deep. The feature was traced approximately 6m to the north, becoming increasingly indistinct afterwards. It was filled with a mid-grey brown firm sandy clay with occasional medium sized rounded stones and was sterile of finds.

A small, fragmented gully was located in the east of Area B, parallel with and 19m from the north/south ditch. This gully corresponds with the western ditch identified during the trial trench evaluation. It has gently sloping rounded sides and a flat base and measured 3.55m in length, 0.38m wide and 0.09m in depth. It was filled with a firm grey brown sandy clay with frequent small to medium sized rounded stones. The ditch was located in the south and was 10.14m in length, 0.53m wide and 0.09m deep. No finds were retrieved, and the function of the gully is unknown.

A shallow small pit was located in the north east corner of Ares B, east of a furrow. The pit was sub oval in shape with gently sloping sides and a flat base and measured 0.72m long, 0.35m wide and 0.08m deep. It was filled with a soft brown grey clay sand with occasional small rounded stones and charcoal flecks. No finds were retrieved.

The excavation has confirmed that the ditches are separate, parallel linear features and do not form part a ring-ditch.
