Full Description

A ditch (1.78 x 0.41 m) lay in the northern part of the Site. The feature was filled with a homogeneous deposit of orangey brown silty clay, which in common with many of the other features within the strip, map, and sample area, contained pebbles and cobbles, some heat-affected. Although obscured by furrows, the feature appeared right-angled in plan, and may have formed the southern boundary of a plot of land accompanying the one defined to the south. The ditch supplied a sherd of Late Iron Age rock and quartz-gritted pottery probably dating to the 1st century AD. A ditch in an earlier evaluation trench possibly represents the eastward continuation of this feature.
