Full Description
A cobbled path was lying towards the north-west limits of the site. It was aligned north-south with a spur at its south end turning eastwards. A small quantity of 10-11th-century pottery was found amongst the cobbles but whether this is a true reflection of its date of use is not known. The path cut into a cobble surface to its west, which extended beyond the limit of the excavations. Both were constructed using angular quartz fragments that had been compacted into the natural clay. There were no finds from surface but it was constructed prior to the path. (The surface was overlain by an occupation layer which produced three post-medieval sherds of pottery, the latest of which dates to between the late 18th and 19th centuries.)
