Full Description

Sub-rectangular pit which contained a charcoal and ash-rich fill with reddened sand and clay. The natural clay into which the pit had been dug was also reddened indicative of burning in situ. The pit may have been a hearth. Three sherds from a single Brown-glazed Earthenware jug of mid 15th to 16th century date came from the pit. The large size and fresh condition of the sherds suggests primary
deposition. Also recovered from this pit was the substantial part of a handmade brick of mid 15th to 17th century date.
