Full Description

A large, shallow pit. It was c.6.20m in length and 3.80m wide and survived to a depth of 0.31m. Two slots were dug through it and the same single dark grey sticky clay layer was recorded in both locations, recorded separately as two contexts. One context produced sherds from five vessels including a Staffordshire White Salt-glazed tea bowl of mid to mid/late 18th century date. Thirty-one vessels, mainly of 18th century date, came from the other context. A single early modern sherd from a 19th or 20th century transfer-printed cup may be intrusive. All six bricks recovered from the second context are handmade and date to between the 14th and 17th centuries.
