Full Description

At the south end of the site a single sub-rectangular pit containing an articulated cattle burial which was partially excavated but not lifted. Its fill contained sherds of 16th-17th century pottery.

At the north end of the site there were five fully articulated cattle burials.

One pit contained three cows and was dug across the filled-in a medieval ditch. Sherds from five
vessels were recovered from this cattle burial. Four of the vessels are of 16th to early/mid 17th century type, however one sherd belongs to the late 17th or 18th centuries. Four late medieval to post-medieval flat roof tiles and a handmade brick fragment of similar date also came from this burial.

Another burial pit cut into a well backfilled with 16th century rubbish.

The bones from two burials were lifted; the remainder of the pits were partially investigated and once confirmed as cattle burials were left in situ. One of these burials produced a Brown-glazed Earthenware sherd of mid/late 17th to 18th century date and a small fragment from a handmade brick of 14th to 16th century type.

Another burial contained a fragment from a Tin-glaze Earthenware vessel of general 17th to 18th century date.
