Full Description
In three trenches, a single north-east–south-west aligned ditch was recorded, measuring 1.6–3.9 m wide and 0.32–0.87 m deep. The ditch contained a single fill of sand, from which two pieces of Mesolithic/Neolithic worked flint and 26 sherds of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age pottery were recovered. A small amount of residual, abraded Romano-British pottery and ceramic building material (CBM) was also recovered. The difference in widths between the ditch slots is probably due to weathering of the sandy natural substrate and sandy ditch fill, possibly causing ditch side collapse and/or making the distinction between the ditch and surrounding geology difficult to clarify on site. The ditch, in part, overlay an area of enhanced magnetism identified in the geophysical survey. (1)
