Full Description
A preliminary walk over the field did show some stones and a piece of possible tegula.
The first trench produced Romano-British pottery.
Two spits produced a quantity of Romano-British pottery sherds.
The second trench revealed Romano-British pottery and heat affected stones. Deeper into the trench, more Romano-British pottery and a small bronze brooch styled like a torc was recovered.
When removing the ploughsoil of a third trench, Romano-British pottery was recovered. A 1m square sondage recovered more Romano-British pottery.
The fourth trench revealed fragments of tiles with scored, stamped or rollered patterns to enable plaster to key onto the tile.
A fifth trench revealed more Romano-British pottery. The top fill context contained Romano-British pottery sherds, while the bottom fill contained a great number of Romano-British pottery sherds, including stamped Samian ware. Charcoal, bone and HAS were also found. It also produced an unidentified ferrous object.
