Full Description

Two undated features were identified nearby during the trial trench evaluation. One feature was initially thought to be a ditch, however its continuation was not detected during mitigation excavation, suggesting that it was instead pit, if it was a genuine feature at all. No dateable artefacts were recovered, however an environmental assemblage from the other irregular pit was similar to that recovered from early medieval horse skull pit. The two features were therefore probably contemporary. The stratigraphic position of the pits with reference to later remains cannot be securely stated.
