Full Description

Area 3:

Very few other positive magnetic anomalies have been detected here, though two in the north and two in the south almost certainly reflect soil-filled features such as ditches.

A concentration of small, discrete dipolar magnetic anomalies has been detected across the central part of the survey area. These may reflect a former field boundary which has since been ploughed out and the magnetic material spread over a wider area.

A very large and well-defined concentration of small, discrete dipolar magnetic anomalies was detected across the northern part of this survey area. This concentration was recorded on the higher ground and broadly corresponds to a heavier topsoil area which was recorded in an earlier soil survey.

Area 5:

Two additional linear positive magnetic anomalies near the southern boundary of the field appear more likely to reflect ditches.

Two linear negative magnetic anomalies orientated east-west have been detected near the southern edge of the survey. These could reflect wheel ruts.

Area 6:

A broad concentration of positive magnetic anomalies orientated northwest/southeast in the northwestern corner of the field this may reflect a former trackway associated with the farm complex which lay in the centre of the field.

A curvilinear positive magnetic anomaly was detected at the northwestern limit of the survey area. This reflects relatively high magnetic susceptibility materials in what could be part of a possible ring-ditch.

Area 7:

A positive magnetic anomaly has been detected oriented northwest/southeast which probably reflects a soil-filled ditch, possibly a former field boundary.

Area 8:

Several parallel positive magnetic anomalies have been detected oriented northeast/southwest, which could reflect soil-filled features or trenches housing land drains.

Area 9:

A series of cell phone masts along the western edge of the survey area have hindered identification of possible archaeological features near that field boundary, however, some positive magnetic anomalies are evident. These anomalies probably reflect soil-filled ditches, one being a possible ring-ditch. Further east two other positive magnetic anomalies could reflect ditch features, possibly two sides of a large enclosure around the other features.
