Full Description
Evidence for the earliest human activity on the site is represented by eight pieces of worked flint, though most of these pieces are residual. The early prehistoric flint tool found was residual as it was recovered from a furrow and was in an abraded condition. In a gully was a Mesolithic blade, but this was found in a context containing modern ceramic building material and glass, and another Mesolithic blade was found in the topsoil in another trench. A Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic blade was discovered in a ditch but this was close to the top of the feature and thus is likely to have been redeposited. Four Mesolithic flakes were found in a pit; it is unlikely that these are in situ. Although most of the flint was recovered from residual contexts, it nevertheless demonstrates prehistoric activity in the area, perhaps in the form of temporary campsites.
