Full Description
Base of building associated with the operational time of Ossington Airfield (1941 - 1946). Probable base of Nissen hut now within small copse. Formed from just over half a cylinder, Nissen huts were primarily used as barracks. Royal Engineer Peter Norman Nissen developed the design with fellow engineers for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. First produced in 1916 the huts were designed with portability in mind as well as economical use of materials. (1)
