Full Description

One monitored area located immediately south of the Chesterfield Canal, contained substantial brick-built remains adjacent to the canal comprising three structures, constructed within two cuts respectively. These remains probably formed part of former canal-side industrial structures and may represent foundations associated either with canal infrastructure or with the former malting buildings known from historic mapping to have occupied this part of the site. Historic mapping records malthouses within this area and, although the remains may represent associated foundations or infrastructure, the limited extent of exposure prevents more detailed interpretation.
