Full Description

What may be a small enclosure, perhaps with other features nearby. (1)
The photo is very poor and none of this is evident. (3)
See L8613-8 for nearby cropmark complex & finds. See SMR map.

Two clusters of discrete anomalies that are recorded within the PDA are interpreted as of uncertain origin and an archaeological cause for these responses cannot be discounted given the proximity of known and extensive archaeological remains immediately east and south-west of the PDA. However, an archaeological cause for both these two clusters of discrete anomalies is far from clear cut and a geological origin for these discrete anomalies and modern or agricultural causes for the linear anomalies are equally plausible. Based on the survey results a previously identified cropmark recorded on the Nottinghamshire HER within the PDA and interpreted as an enclosure is more likely to be due to services/pipes possibly associated with a former petrol station which previously occupied the site. High magnitude linear anomalies are recorded in the east of the PDA, immediately adjacent to the diner. These anomalies locate sub-surface services (pipes or drains) possibly associated with the petrol station which is recorded very close to this location on the 1971 OS mapping. It is postulated that cropmarks interpreted as a possible enclosure, also at or very close to this location, may in fact be due to the services recorded in the magnetic data. (4)
