Full Description

A group of fields situated along a slight ridge between the River Ryton and a tributary on fields called the Alps, up to 2.4Ha in area, which include a number of subrectangular enclosures, possibly of Ro date. (1)
Watching brief on pipeline. Area 20, ditch, surprisingly shallow. Area 21, E-W boundary ditch, recut on S side, after initial ditch had almost completely silted up. Area 22, complicated series of ditches, earliest N-S. Cut by angled ditch and a recut offset to NE. Original N-S ditch also recut, terminated in butt end, probably representing a causeway. Area 24, the ditch sealed beneath colluvium. Wide and shallow with flat base. Area 26, 'U' shaped profile ditch. Eleven other features, all resembling small pits or narrow ditch terminals. (2)
Continuation of L 4924 - see for AP refs. See L 4922,3 - cropmarks to W, L 4924- continuation to S.
See L12051 for Med pottery, L12052 for U pottery.
