Full Description
Adaption of drainage patterns both sides of Smite Lane, between R. Smite and the village. 3m wide, 1m deep, N-S ditch at foot of valley edge slope. Link between Bon Moor and Northing Drains. Low bank runs parallel to this, 3m away along W side, to N of Smite Lane (may be hidden in wood to S). Massive, 2m high banks survive both sides of canalised R. Smite to S of Smite Lane. Parish boundary follows former river channel, now a wide sinuous hollow cross -ing woodland and pasture fields to E of the artificial course. Large 1m high curving bank runs E-W to S of Smite Lane (see 01565), by old river course. A linear bank runs W, N of road, in pasture field. This may be two features. To the east of the old river channel, it appears to be the north edge of a linear hollow. On reaching the paleaochannel, it becomes a narrow, low, raised bank that disappears before reaching the river. (1)
