Full Description

The pre-Norman sculptured coped tomb-cover, which Mr Stretton states was dug up in the churchyard many years prior to 1821, is now fixed in an upright position against the E wall of the S aisle. This remarkably fine piece of mingled interlaced and figure design is probably of C10 date, and is considered to be by far the finest example that has hitherto been found in England. (1)
A late C10 coped grave cover, with "Jellinge" type ornament was unearthed in Hickling churchyard. It is now preserved in the S aisle of Hickling Church. (2)
