Title An Archaeological Watching Brief at HMP Lowdham Grange, Nottinghamshire
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2008

Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was carried out on the 14th and the 15th July and the 11th November 2008 on land at the site of HMP Lowdham Grange, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. This work was undertaken during groundworks for the expansion of existing facilities which incorporates a new car parking area. The watching brief failed to reveal any archaeological deposits, finds or features within the development area. The new car parking area was revealed to be heavily disturbed with made up ground levels connected with the construction of the prison in 1993 and the area of expansion also had no archaeological deposits. The absence of archaeological remains on the site suggests that the area has not been subject to any major occupational activity in its past. The results of the investigation were therefore negative.
