Title Land at Stoke Lane, Stoke Bardolph, Nottinghamshire: Report on an Archaeological Investigation
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2019

Abstract/Summary

This report describes the results of an archaeological evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on land off Stoke Lane, Stoke Bardolph, Nottinghamshire. HDDL commissioned the archaeological work and the evaluation took place from 29th July to 9th August 2019. The aim of the work was to identify and record any archaeological remains within the proposed development area and to investigate anomalies detected during the geophysical survey. Two ditches of late post-medieval to modern date, as well as several gullies and gully termini of unknown date, were identified; these corresponded to anomalies detected during the geophysical survey. Cartographic evidence indicates that these represent features associated with the site’s former usage as part of the Stoke Bardolph Sewage Works. Trial trenching immediately east of the site in 2018 had uncovered features representing possible Iron Age settlement, but there was no evidence to suggest that the features uncovered during the evaluation related to these previously discovered remains.
