Abstract/Summary
An evaluation was conducted by ULAS ahead of a proposed construction of a train station at Ratcliffe-on-Soar. The site lies south of Red Hill (SM Notts 141). This evaluation is a continuation of the previous work and comprised a total of 18 trenches. These confirmed the findings of previous work. The features were dated by artifacts to the Romano-British period, mainly from the 2nd-4th c. AD. A small amount of medieval activity was also noted. It is suggested that the extent of the Romano-British activity lies on the lower ground with the lack of features on the higher area to the east suggesting they might have been used as fields. An isolated prehistoric ditch containing a small amount of material from the Neolithic-Bronze Age was also recorded in the north-east corner of the higher area.
