Title LAND AT BRAEMAR FARM, COLLINGHAM, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE: GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2013

Abstract/Summary

Detailed magnetic gradiometer survey was undertaken for M&M Archaeological Services in connection with proposed development on land at Braemar Farm, Collingham, Nottinghamshire. The survey totalled c. 7ha. No positive anomalies of clear archaeological origin were identified. A number of discrete positive responses might represent isolated pit features but these are not strong and would be difficult to interpret on the basis of form alone. Background variation is not very evident across the majority of the survey area, but two areas show stronger geological variation (evidenced by the broad, sinuous and diffuse nature of the response). Isolated positive responses are in most cases weaker than the natural variations seen here. Discrete bipolar responses usually represent iron items in the topsoil and are generally fairly randomly scattered. In this case there are several straight alignments if such response which seem likely to represent the former locations of modern temporary fencing.
