Title Archaeological Evaluation Report: Trial Trenching on Land off Maltkiln Close, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by trial trenching on land off Maltkiln Close, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, following approval of a planning application for the construction of a new residential development. The site lies in an area of archaeological interest. Flint scatters and cropmarks nearby attest to potential prehistoric activity, as well as possible Roman features nearby, including a marching camp. The site lies a short distance to the southeast of the historic core of the settlement. The trenching strategy comprised the excavation of four trenches, each 20m long and 1.8m wide. No deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance were encountered. The results suggest the proposed development area has a negligible archaeological potential.
