An archaeological evaluation, consisting of one 20m x 2m trench, was undertaken in advance of the construction of an extension to a warehouse/workshop building at AquaticControl Centre Ltd., on Retford Road in the village of Rampton in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire. The site lies in an area of archaeological potential, associated with the medieval Ramptonvillage. Earthworks have been recorded in an adjacent field, while cropmarks indicating the sub-surface remains of enclosures, a moat and a possible hollow-way have been recorded in the fields on the west side of Retford Road. No indications of occupation or activity on the site pre-dating the construction of the existing warehouse/workshop building were seen during the evaluation.
