Abstract/Summary
Archaeological monitoring and recording to satisfy a planning condition for extensions to Elderberry Cottage, 4 Orston Lane, Flawborough, Nottinghamshire.
The site is located in an area of archaeological interest. Within a short distance from the site is the church of St Peter, believed to date from the Saxo-Norman period. In the field to the west of the development are enclosure and linear earthworks are recorded and Roman and medieval pottery has been recovered nearby. A lead tank that featured Christian symbolism, and archaeological features that dated to the 1st century BC through to the 4th century AD were discovered in a field to the west of the earthworks.
The archaeological monitoring and recording identified only a natural stratigraphic sequence of
topsoil over natural geology, as well as demolition layers and floor surfaces associated with a
former outbuilding.
