Abstract/Summary
A scheme of trial trench archaeological evaluation took place on land at St. Wilfred’s House, off Church Lane in the village of South Muskham in Nottinghamshire.
The site lies in an area of high archaeological potential, and the village is of Anglo-Saxon origin. Extensive cropmarks identified as remains of a late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement have been recorded in fields to the north and west of the site. The plot now occupied by the late 19th century St. Wilfrid’s House is thought to have lain within the agricultural hinterland of the early medieval and medieval village.
This archaeological evaluation concluded without exposing any finds or features of archaeological significance
