Abstract/Summary

A detailed magnetic gradiometer survey was undertaken in connection with proposed development on land at Hollowdyke Lane, Fernwood, Nottinghamshire. The survey area totalled c. 17.4ha. The area of investigation lies just north of possible Roman cropmarks and a little further north of known Iron Age and Roman settlement. The survey revealed extensive medieval or post-medieval ridge and furrow, and land boundaries that are known from 19th century maps. A potential Iron Age ring ditch was also identified, although this may be an artefact of interference in the survey data. Several unidentified features were also noted.
