Title Clipstone Phase lll, Cavendish Way, Nottinghamshire: Geophysical survey
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2019

Abstract/Summary

A geophysical gradiometer/earth resistance survey was undertaken to investigate geological fissures/break lines on a housing development area to the north east of Goldcrest Lane, Clipstone, Nottinghamshire. Magnetometry and Earth Resistance are techniques used by AOC Archaeology for the identification of anomalies and features which indicate the presence of archaeological remains. The survey methods are not typically usually used for the detection of geological anomalies, though anomalies of such classification are often identified in survey results. The results obtained through this report are a suggestive interpretation rather than a definitive interpretation and further investigation would be required to definitively confirm the location and character of the fissures. The results of the survey have identified the following: Four known fissures were identified in both the magnetometer and earth resistance survey data. Two of the fissures in particular were identified by the highly magnetic concrete capping covering the fissures. A number of additional trends are visible across the earth resistance dataset which are thought to relate to possible fissures / break lines. However, some of these trends could relate to drains, services or old tree roots and their interpretation is thus not definitive.
